CLERS Centralized Law Enforcement Request System

Terms of Service

Effective: August 28, 2026

1. The service

CLERS provides a communication and evidence-exchange channel between law enforcement (and vetted authorized parties) and participating companies. CLERS is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice, and does not decide whether any request is lawful or whether any company must comply.

2. Truthful use by law enforcement

Submitting a request, you attest that you are an authorized law enforcement officer or authorized party acting within your official duties, that the information provided is accurate, and that any legal process referenced is genuine. Impersonating an officer or fabricating legal process is a crime and will be referred for prosecution along with the complete audit record, including your IP address.

3. Company responsibilities

Companies are responsible for the accuracy of their published policies, the lawfulness of their disclosure decisions, and the content of evidence they deliver. Companies must not use CLERS data for any purpose other than responding to requests.

4. Acceptable use

No attempts to access data you are not a party to, probe or degrade the service, upload malware, or automate scraping. All activity is logged to a tamper-evident audit chain.

5. Availability and liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranty. CLERS is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, missed deadlines, or the loss of evidence held by third parties. For exigent, life-safety matters, always pursue direct contact in parallel.

6. Pricing

The service is currently free and open. If paid tiers are introduced, existing core functionality for responding to law enforcement will remain available.

7. Changes

We may update these terms; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
